Sysvol Structure

Domain (Folder which actually contains the policies and scripts)

  • Pre-Existing
  • Pre-Install

Staging (Folder where the files are actually stagged)
  • Domain

Staging Areas (Does not contains any data but only contains a pointer)
  • <Domain Name>

Sysvol (Does not contains any data but only contains a pointer)
  • <Domain Name>

* Pre-Existing - This folder is not created by default. It gets created only in certain scenarios especially when we do a Non-Authoritative Restore (D2) on a domain controller then the policies and scripts which are already there on that server moves into the Pre-Exsiting Folder

* Pre-Install - Hidden folder where the files or chunks of files assembles before getting moved to the main folder - Policies and Scripts
